Kyiv Extension Course of Study Print

The program is 68 units of study over three years. Courses will be offered in one-week sessions, two courses (typically) in back-to-back modules. Two 2-week modules will be scheduled each semester.

While the core of the M.A. program and the required courses in the Biblical and Theological Studies/Diversified emphasis are the same as on the main Talbot campus (with the exception of three core courses for which appropriate substitutions have been made), "electives" have been pre-determined according to needs of the region in consultation with KTS leaders. Pre-determination of electives is necessitated because of the relatively small number of students in each cohort.

Faculty

Faculty from Talbot will teach 2-3 courses every year. Other courses will be taught by existing KTS faculty or other guests from Europe or Russia.

Language of Instruction

The language of classroom instruction will primarily be English, but instruction also will be given in Russian or Ukrainian, depending on the needs of a given cohort. Translators will be provided for students requiring English assistance.

Assignments

Course assignments are to be divided between pre- and post-course assignments. Occasionally, assignments may be made during modular intensives. Pre-course assignments will be due at the beginning of each one-week course. Post-course assignments will be due no later than 30 days following the end of each one-week course. Students may complete course assignments in their choice of English, Russian or Ukrainian.

A thesis is not mandatory for graduation.

Library resources

The facilities and collection of the Kyiv Theological Seminary Library will be available to Kyiv Extension students. KTS maintains a theological collection of more than 32,000 carefully selected volumes. Acquisitions are carefully selected to assure on-going development of a quality collection. Holdings in the reference section and stacks include the following:

  • 12,229 volumes in Russian

  • 19,864 volumes in English

  • 32,093 volumes total

  • 5 scholarly journals (in Russian)

Current building expansion will provide new library quarters with space for 100,000 volumes. Library resources will be made available to students during each intensive, as well as before and after while studying at home, through KTS library loans and access to the seminary's electronic library.

Access to the Biola University Library (La Mirada, CA, campus) will be made available online to Kyiv Extension students by way of three computers in the KTS Library and 12-13 computers in a computer lab, providing entree to catalogs, databases and internet resources. Biola Library personnel will be available for consultation with KTS in the development of its resources to meet the needs of the extension program. Access to Internet sites posted in Russian will be provided.

Students will likewise have access to excellent regional public libraries that frequently have holdings that include theological volumes and resources pertinent to the practice of ministry
