GS 101 Orientation (3) An introduction to academic life at Kyiv Theological Seminary with an emphasis on writing, particularly research papers, computer/internet skills, Microsoft Word skills, library skills, creative thinking and time management. Included in this course will be a reception with faculty and staff. GS 102 Grammar (3) A survey of Russian and Ukrainian grammar to encourage love for native languages and prepare students for studies of hermeneutics, original biblical languages and usage of language skills and grammar knowledge during personal Bible study. GS 102 Computer for Ministry (2) Skills development course introduces students to various forms of possible usage of computer technologies and software in ministry and study. *GS 103 English 1 (4) This course is an introduction to English grammar. It covers simple present, past, and future verb tenses. Basic vocabulary is taught with an emphasis on reading (up to 400 basic vocabulary words). The books of the Bible and simple theological vocabulary are introduced. *GS 104 English 2 (4) This course covers additional English verb tenses and more basic grammar. More theological vocabulary, Bible memorization, and regular reading assignments (up to 1000 basic vocabulary words). Prerequisite: GS 103 or equivalent *GS 201 English 3 (4) The course covers more grammar and use of time clauses. Time is spent on use of dictionaries, especially theological dictionaries, and other reference materials. Intensive English reading and memorization of theological vocabulary is required. Texts up to 2500 basic vocabulary words. Prerequisite: GS 104 or equivalent *GS 202 English 4 (4) The course will take an in-depth look at suffixes and roots for the purpose of expanding vocabulary. Review of previous grammar. Students learn availability and use of the library English-language resources and the internet. Students will read unabridged books. Intensive English reading is required. Prerequisite: GS 201 or equivalent GS 301 Public Speaking (3) The focus of this course is to introduce students to the purpose, nature, types, and techniques for preparing and communicating God's Word effectively in a variety of ministry situations. *GS 302 English 5 (2) The course will give students opportunity for guided theological reading from commentaries, journal articles, and systematic theology books. Emphasis will be on building reading skills and vocabulary. Intensive English reading is required. Prerequisite: GS 202 or equivalent *GS 303 English 6 (2) This course requires independent reading from journals, commentaries, and theology books. Classroom reading and work will include subject matter that parallels other classes. Intensive English reading is required. Prerequisite: GS 302 or equivalent GS 401 Law (2) The course surveys the foundational principles for legislative systems, focusing on legislative issues related to religious organizations of Ukraine, Russia, and other post-Soviet countries. GS 404 Literature (3-4) This course introduces students to selected Christian writers and their writings.
