Bible Exposition
BE 101 Hermeneutics (3) A practical introduction to foundational Bible study methods and steps for interpreting the Bible so that the students can understand the Bible, apply it effectively in their own lives, and then use it in their ministry, as in Ezra (7:10). BE 146 Exposition of Romans (3) The course is a study of this epistle in order to understand its argument and content. The student will examine the various theological themes presented in this letter. Attention will be given to the background and occasion for Romans. BE 268 Exposition of the Corinthian Letters (3) The course provides a historical and cultural overview of the setting for the issues raised in 1 & 2 Corinthians; it provides discovery and analysis of various theological issues raised in 1 & 2 Corinthians. Practical implications for ministry and personal living will be discussed with a view to personal application as well as homiletical applications. BE 259 Exposition of Hebrews (3) This course will consider the logical argument of Hebrews, the way the author of Hebrews uses the Old Testament, and the basic content of Hebrews as the author develops the priestly ministry of Christ. Difficult passages such as the “warning” passages will be treated. The course is designed to enhance preaching and teaching from the Book of Hebrews. BE 302 Exposition of Genesis (3) An examination of Genesis with particular emphasis on the major themes and events: creation, flood, patriarchal narratives, and the Abrahamic Covenant. Attention will be given to significant historical and archaeological details relative to the cultural milieu as well as to crucial theological concepts found in key chapters in the book. BE 424 Exposition of Isaiah (3) Careful attention is given to the special introductory aspects of the book: 1) unity, authorship, date; 2) historical background; 3) themes, motifs, or emphasis; 4) purpose(s); and 5) literary features. A detailed exposition of the major portions of the text will be presented, especially the Messianic sections. BE 244 Exposition of John (3) An expositional survey of the Gospel of John intended to familiarize the student with the outline, theology and purpose of the book and suggest methods for using it in ministry. Basic hermeneutical methods will be employed observing the literary patterns and methods of the fourth gospel, interpreting the text in its historical grammatical setting, and applying it to the student’s life and ministry. |
