General Information about the Programs Currently the seminary has a Bachelor of Theology degree with the choice of five (5) majors: Biblical Studies, Christian Education, Church Planting, Pastoral Leadership and Youth Ministry. The seminary also is working towards starting a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in Biblical and Theological Studies. KTS’ programs operate in two modes: a full-time residential program and a modular program. The modular program is geared towards those who are in active ministry and have the desire to earn a degree without leaving their current ministry.
The chart below provides information regarding modes of study for each program and who can be enrolled in them. | | Residential | Modular | Women | Men | | Bachelor of Theology | | Biblical Studies | * | | * | * | | Christian Education | * | * | * | * | | Church Planting | * | * | | * | | Pastoral Leadership | | * | | * | | Youth Ministry | * | * | * | * | | Master of Arts | | Biblical and Theological Studies | | * | * | * | General Graduation Requirements In order to qualify for graduation from the seminary, students must earn their last 40 credit hours from KTS and fulfill the academic and practical ministry requirements of the specific program they are enrolled in. Students enrolled in residential programs must earn 144 credit hours in order to graduate. Students enrolled in modular programs must earn 104 credit hours in order to graduate. The maximum time allowed to complete a program is eight years from the time of initial enrollment. To receive a diploma students must not only to complete all the academic and practical ministry obligations for their program but also to fulfill their obligations to the seminary. This includes items such as settling all financial accounts, cleaning of dorm rooms, and returning all resources to the library. The student who does not fulfill these obligations will not receive his/her diploma until these matters are settled. Practicum Requirements The purpose of the Practicum (or supervised ministry experience) is to provide the student an opportunity to observe and participate in an effective ministry related to his/her particular discipline. This field education opportunity serves as reinforcement to what is taught in the classroom. Every student is required to earn a total of 8 academic credits (one credit per semester) by serving each semester in an approved ministry for a minimum of three hours per week of preparation and one hour per week in actual service in the local church. One of the unique aspects of KTS is not only the high standard of academic excellence but the practical expression of ministry: the classroom and field education function in tandem to produce one of the most effective and comprehensive training programs in the country. Undergraduate professors, coordinated curriculum, and approved sites of field education function under the guidance of KTS and the program directors. At the beginning of each year, each student will meet with their Program Director to determine the place of ministry. A placement approval form will be signed by the student, his/her mentor, the program director and KTS administrative director. Evaluation forms filled out by the student’s mentor are required to be turned into their program director at regular intervals. A final grade will be given to each student for each semester of their supervised ministry experience. |
